Verdenskongress i Oslo 2004

I 1952 fikk Oslo rådhus fikk sitt sitt første konsertklokkespill. Ved inngangen til byens 1000-års jubileum, den 19. desember 1999, innviet man et nytt instrument på 20 tonn fordelt på 49 klokker. Oslo biskop innviet et nytt konsertklokkespill i Oslo domkirke i desember 2003. Året etter, 13. juni 2004, kunne Uranienborg kirke innvie et nytt tre oktavers konsertklokkespill. I tillegg til byens tre store konsertklokkespill, har en del av Oslos drabantbykirker små klokkespill til liturgisk bruk. Tross Oslos relativt korte historie som klokkespillby, valgte World Carillon Federation å takke ja til invitasjonen de fikk år 2000 og The 14th World Carillon Congress fant sted i Norges hovedstad i perioden 27. juni – 1. juli 2004. Hennes Majestet Dronning Sonja var kongressens beskytter og var tilstede ved mottakelsen for kongressens deltakere i Oslo rådhus. Den lokale venneforeningen Amici Campanarum Osloensis var formell arrangør av kongressen med klokkenist Vegar Sandholt som primus motor. De fikk god hjelp av NSCK som vertsorganisasjon. Programmet for kongressen bestod av konserter med bl.a. internasjonalt kjente klokkenister, Kongelige norske marines musikkorps i samspill med Vegar Sandholt på transportabelt klokkespill, solotrombonist Marius Hesby og det finske håndklokkeensemblet Sonus. Ved siden av de mange konsertene, bestod kongressen av foredrag, ekskursjoner til klokkespillene i Bragernes kirke, Sandfjord kirke og til Olsen Nauen klokkestøperi samt mottakelser, middager, forhandlinger og sosialt samvær for klokkenister som har stor glede av å treffe kolleger fra hele verden. The 14th World Carillon Congress 2004 ble arranget med støtte fra Oslo by og Norsk kulturråd, med tilskudd fra Dronning Margrethe og Prins Henriks fond, Obos og flere andre bidragsytere.

On behalf of the Diocese of Oslo and the Chruch of Norway, it is my great joy to welcome the World Carillon Congress to Oslo and to all the churches of this diocese. We have been enriched and inspired by the interest in carillon music in our country. The newly installed carillons in the Catheral of Oslo and the Parish Church of Uranienborg, together with the carillon of the City Hall, are great instruments, who served by an eminent carillon master, contribute to the entire cultural profile of the city. I wish to express gratitude also to the Olsen Nauen Bell Foundry who through generations have created wonderfull church bells for our nation. Also I wish to pay tribute to all those who thorugh generous gifts and public support have made Oslo a worthy host of the World Carillon Congress. We rejoice in the fact that we have eminent musicians who have explored new and creative ways of communicating with a large audience through music, new and old. May your days in Norway inspire your work and therby be a blessing to our nations.
